A Festival marked by four days of celebration and is one of the biggest and brightest of all festivals, is renowned as Deepavali or Diwali.
It is one of the most pious occasion and is celebrated in India along with different parts of world. Diwali illuminate each one of us with its sheer magic and dazzles people everywhere with joy and celebrations.
All four days have their own unique traditions and customs which fill people with peace, love, hope and rejuvenate the mind with unadulterated happiness.
Diwali is being celebrated since ancient India. It mostly begins as an important harvest festival but it is also associated with different religion in different ways which points to different origins of Diwali.
Diwali for Hindus is marked as the wedding of Goddess Lakshmi(the goddess of wealth), with the Lord Vishnu. Some also celebrate it as the goddess Lakshmi‘s birthday who was born on the new moon day of Karthik. Lord Ganesha is also worshipped as he is the symbol of auspiciousness and wisdom.
But the most accepted fact for Diwali, is its celebration for the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his 14 years of exile and his victory over Ravana.
In Bengal, Diwali is dedicated for the worship of Goddess Kali. In Jains, Diwali mark‘s the significant event for Lord Mahavira who attain eternal bliss called Nirvana.
On this special day, Lord Rama was welcomed in his kingdom with the rows of Diya’s which lightened throughout his kingdom thus the origin of tradition of lighting oil lamps on Diwali. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil and freedom over spiritual darkness.
Diwali is signified with the lights and diyas along with the prayers and love among the people which creates a wonderful atmosphere comprises of goodness and purity.
Diwali not only includes lights, gifts, sweets and gambling but it is also the time, to reflect on one’s life, our past deeds and making the right choices in the future.
It is the celebration of freedom and friendliness. It rejuvenates our soul, refresh our mind and allow us to make changes as a healthy, ethical individual and helps us to become more efficient in our work and also in the spiritual terms.
It is a celebration of prosperity that gives us strength and zeal for the rest of the year and promise of success and prospecting near future.
Ultimately, what Diwali should mean to each one of us, is the real question?
For me, Diwali should illuminate our inner self. It must destroy our dark desires, dark thoughts and should reflect our best attitude towards ourselves and to others.
