6 Hidden Gems Around the World

I've curated a list of beautiful destinations that aren't trendy but offer a lot of fun activities and are beautiful beyond words. Here are the 6 hidden gems around the world that you should visit at least once in your lifetime:

Rainbow Mountains

Located within the Zhangye Danxia Geopark in Gansu province of North West China, the stunning Rainbow Mountains are a geological wonder.  Composed of colourful layers of sandstone and minerals, it looks like a talented artist painted these structures with rainbow colours. Truth be told, it looks so unreal that on seeing its pictures one might find it hard to believe that they're not photo-shopped to look like that. Despite its otherworldly beauty, it has just begun to catch the attention of international tourists.

The Rainbow Mountains received the World Heritage Site status in 2009, which put it on the radar of many explorers. So don't wait until this destination gains more attention and popularity and book your tickets now!

Isola Bella Gardens and Palace

Isola Bella, meaning beautiful island, is truly an apt name for this enchanting island where you can tour an ancient Baroque palace with beautiful hanging tapestries and sculptures. The palace stands overlooking a crystal clear Lake and you’ll find beautiful white peacocks saunter through its splendid gardens. Among the gardens, you’ll also find an extensive collection of plants.

You’ll be fascinated to know that it took almost four hundred years and the teamwork of hundreds of architects, engineers, plasterers, painters and cabinet makers to transform Isola Bella from a rock inhabited by fishermen to the beauty that she is today.

A perfect blend of art, architecture, history and nature’s beauty, Isola Bella is the place to be if you're a true romantic at heart. This stunning island is becoming more crowded as it's catching the attention of worshippers of beauty and art all over the world. So don't delay and pack your bags now!

Giant’s Causeway

Nestled on the edge of the Antrim plateau, the Giant’s Causeway is a series of hexagonal rock formations. This breathtaking structure which is often called UK’s Fourth Wonder was declared a World Heritage Site in 1986.

Let me tell you an interesting fact about this splendid site. It took almost 600 million years to form the Giant’s Causeway. Here you can over the hexagonal basalt rocks, explore the hills that adorn the Causeway coast, or just watch and admire the rocks tumbling into the Atlantic Ocean standing atop one of the surrounding hills. Don't forget to enjoy the breathtaking sunset that this geological marvel has to offer.

Vagamon

Situated in Kerala, India, Vagamon is a land of rolling hills, lush tea gardens, gushing waterfalls, entrancing meadows, dense forests and extensive pine valleys. This serene land whose hills are perpetually wrapped in a blanket of mist has some of the best viewpoints that offer breathtaking sunset views. Kolahalamedu, the highest place in Vagamon, has towering pine trees with needle-covered branches. Pine Valley, Eco-point, and Mooppanpara are other popular tourist attractions.

Apart from revelling in the beauty of this place, you can indulge in a lot of fun activities such as trekking, paragliding, rock climbing and mountaineering. So much to do, right? We can say that it's a destination that you’ll want to visit again and again.

Stairway to Nothingness

If you’re someone who likes to challenge yourself and most importantly, aren’t afraid of heights, then this destination would be perfect for you to explore. At the Dachstein, 14 narrow steps take you to a glass shelf placed at a dizzying height.

Built in 2013, the Stairway to Nothingness connects to a suspension bridge weighing 5 tons. What’s so special about this? Upon climbing these 14 narrow steps, you will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the splendid snow-capped mountains surrounding it.

Marble Caves

marble caves

Huge columns of pure marble, tunnels, and caves have been formed over 6,200 years as a result of the water wearing away at the massive marble deposits on the General Carrera Lake's shore. The marble closest to the water's surface dissolved the fastest because the water swapped into tiny fissures and eventually widened them into fractures that were worn away. As a result, there is a marble maze slightly above sea level and a few islands with the well-known "marble cathedral" and "marble chapel."

Look down your kayak when you finish marvelling at the spectacular marble caves snuggled in the clear waters of General Carrera Lake. You’ll be amazed at the beautiful sights that the lake’s clear waters have to offer.

Well, I should warn you that the caves are pretty secluded and can only be reached through a boat, kayak or a ferry. However, it’s worth your effort and time. So don’t miss out on this geological marvel and add it to your bucket list.

Final Words

Exploring hidden gems may be an enriching journey that provides a glimpse into some of the lesser-known beauties of the globe. We expose ourselves to one-of-a-kind interactions, genuine experiences, and priceless memories when we venture outside the typical tourist destinations. I hope the list of beautiful destinations, untainted by mass tourism, that I've curated has helped you decide on your next vacation spot.
